Microsoft Xbox has just acquired the publisher Activision Blizzard, and the gaming world is buzzing.
Whether you’ve heard of Activision Blizzard from their troubled reputation under Bobby Kotick, or from their incredible catalogue of games, this is huge news for the gaming world for many reasons.
Inclusivity and safety for women in game development have been an important issue in gaming for some time now, so it’s exciting to see what positive changes are in store for the publishing giant with Xbox at the helm.
As far as the gaming goes, it’s a huge win for Xbox and gamers everywhere.
It means large, successful games that were originally released under PlayStation will be available for play on Xbox consoles and PC through Xbox Game Pass. That includes Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and even the old classics like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro.
The news comes as Xbox Game Pass announced their number of subscribers exceeding 25 million today.
It’s not only Activision Blizzard that will now be reporting to Xbox; everyone under the Activision umbrella will be included.
Yes, that means Beenox, Demonware, Digital Legends, High Moon Studios, Infinity Ward, King, Major League Gaming, Radical Entertainment, Raven Software, Sledgehammer Games, Toys for Bob, and Treyarch are also part of the deal.
As of now, Activision Blizzard will operate independently until the deal is completely closed. Afterward, all these companies will be reporting to the current CEO of Xbox, Phil Spencer.
