Following the Supreme Court’s history-making decision to lift the national ban on gay marriage last year, the Obama administration announced a variety of new benefits being sent all same-sex couples’ way; including in states where gay marriage is still banned.

Make no mistake: this is a massive step in the right direction towards total equality between the LGBT and heterosexuals. The benefits, reportedly, are vast in range and vary between Social Security to veterans’ benefits, as well as work leave in order to care for sick husbands and wives.

Reportedly, these are all a part of efforts made by President Barack Obama to provide proper care to all same-sex couples, even in states where the law is still set against them. You can say many things for and against his overall time as POTUS, but if one thing’s for sure, Obama’s staunch advocacy for the LGBT movement is an incredibly refreshing change for the political scene.

On a similar note, the Social Security Administration has announced that they will allow as many survivor and death benefits for same-sex couples in said states that don’t allow gay marriage as they can, whereas the Veteran Affairs Department will start allowing gay veterans and their significant others to be buried together at national cemeteries.
