Love is love, no matter who you are. Which is why the dating site, OKCupid, has taken a stand against Mozilla Firefox and their CEO, Brendan Eich, and their opposition of gay rights.
And OKCupid means business. Users who access the site using the Mozilla browser receive a message from the website, which reads, “Equality for gay relationships is personally important to many of us here at OkCupid. But it’s professionally important to the entire company. OkCupid is for creating love. Those who seek to deny love and instead enforce misery, shame, and frustration are our enemies, and we wish them nothing but failure,” before urging users to use a different browser.
Eich has stated that he is, in fact, supportive of equal rights, pointing “to the company’s inclusion of health benefits for same-sex couples.” Executive chairwoman, Mitchell Baker, has echoed Eich’s statement, stating that “Mozilla supports equality for all, explicitly including LGBT equality and marriage equality.”
Mozilla has released a statement in regards to OKCupid’s actions, saying, “Mozilla supports equality for all, including marriage equality for LGBT couples. No matter who you are or who you love, everyone deserves the same rights and to be treated equally. OkCupid never reached out to us to let us know of their intentions, nor to confirm facts.”
