It looks like we have some more exciting news about the British 8-part series Penny Dreadful! Harry Potter’s own Helen McCrory has been added to the show’s cast alongside Russell Beale, reports DigitalSpy.
McCrory will take on the role of Madame Kali, a spiritualist, while Russell Beale will play Ferdinand Lyle, the eccentric Egyptologist. The Bill’s Danny Sapani has also hopped aboard as Sembene, Sir Malcolm’s (Timothy Dalton) longtime affiliate. Other stars involved in Penny Dreadful include Josh Hartnett, Eva Green, and Doctor Who’s own Billie Piper.
The series that tells the backstory of some of literatures greatest horror stories is written and executive produced by John Logan and Sam Mendes, the duo behind Skyfall. It will mark the pair’s first collaboration for television.
Penny Dreadful will address the origins of Victor Frankenstein, Frankenstein’s monster, Count Dracula, and Dorian Gray. It will air on the UK channel Sky Atlantic, and will begin production this month in Dublin.
