So remember a few hours ago when I wrote a piece about Reese Witherspoon getting arrested and I said that I doubted she would release a statement? Well I was wrong because she has.  Why did I think she wouldn’t? Honestly, Reese (because you know I’m on a first name basis with her) seems like the kind of gal who wouldn’t play into the media attention and wait till it died down or the next story came along but she did and here is what she said (through her publicist of course):

Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.

My opinion? I think the statement is well said and sincere, after all she didn’t have to say anything and could have waited for it to blow over. It’s clear Reese acknowledges the incident and that it was wrong something most celebrities never do. She seems to be taking it all in good stride as she reportedly stepped out onto the red carpet tonight at movie premier at the Tribeca Film Festival currently taking place in NYC.

So what do you think? Is her statement genuine or just damage control?
