It looks like the long awaited reboot of Highlander has hit yet another bump in the road. Ryan Reynolds has apparently pulled out of the project for unspecified reasons, according to TheWrap.

The reboot of the classic 80’s movies, which starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, has been in development for over 5 years. In that time it has also had two director changes in the last 4 years.

Justin Lim left the project back in 2009 to direct the latest movie in The Fast and The Furious franchise and his replacement Juan Carlos Fresnadillo departed the project amicably in December due to creative differences. There has yet to be another director attached to the film.

If the departure of Reynolds is correct, it may work in the film’s favour as the new director can start with a clean slate and create his own vision for the piece as opposed to working on anothers.

Original star Lambert speaking to Digital Spy at the recent Monte Carlo Television Festival, said that the Summit Entertainment project would only work if the new movie reinvented itself and didn’t just make an “exact replica” of the original movies.
