Could Marge and Homer be headed to divorce court? According to Al Jean, executive producer of The Simpsons, the couple is going to hit a rough patch.

How does it happen? If you don’t want any spoilers, stop reading here. For others, reports are that Homer will be diagnosed with narcolepsy, which will strain the couple’s marriage so much they choose to get a legal separation.

Now, casual fans of The Simpsons may think this is devastating news, but the die-hard fans may look at this situation as a “been there, done that” situation. You see, Homer filed for divorce all the way back in season 8. Though the couple ended up getting remarried by Reverend Lovejoy, in season 20 it as discovered that he had no legal license to perform weddings when they were remarried. So, that technically means that they were already not married for 12 years.

Still following?  If yes, this is not the only shake-up to hit the Simpson clan in the upcoming season.  There are also reports that the annual “Treehouse of Horror” episode will show Sideshow Bob finally murdering Bart. However, since this episode is only a special, we are confident that Bart will live on when the storyline picks up.

Another recent announcement about the upcoming season of The Simpsons is that the cast of the HBO show, Girls, will also make cameos. In fact, Lena Dunham will voice a pharmacist that Homer falls in love with during the separation from Marge.

All of this news has made fans eager to pick up on watching the new season, but unfortunately, you will have to wait because The Simpsons won’t return until September 27th!
