Today marks the beginning of WonderCon: Anaheim. The event, which runs April 18th-20th, is known as the sister event to the mega-successful Comic Con which is held annually in San Diego, California. WonderCon originated in the Bay Area of California in 1987 before co-creators Mike Friedrich and Joe Field asked Comic Con International to take over running the event in 2001. The event was then forced to move south to Anaheim in 2012 when their San Fransisco venue was under construction. The event boasted 50,000 attendees in 2011 and has only grown since then, with a variety of exhibitors, vendors and special guests from the world of comic books, movies and television.

Therefore it was only fitting that Bryan Singer was to be one of this year’s special guests since X-Men: Days of Future Past  is set to be one of the biggest movies of the year. That was until allegations against Singer surfaced, accusing him of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy.

Since these allegations would presumably be the focus of any press that Singer would be involved in at WonderCon, 20th Century Fox (the studio distributing X-Men) has instead chosen to send Simon Kinberg in Singer’s place. Kinberg is the writer and producer on Days Of Future Past and no stranger to the X-Men movie universe, having been involved as a writer and/or producer on the films since X-Men: The Last Stand.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past isn’t the only project trying to distance themselves from Bryan Singer. ABC has also pulled promos for their upcoming drama series Black Box that feature Singer’s name. Singer serves as executive producer for the show.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past is set to hit theaters May 23rd while Black Box is set to premiere April 24th on ABC.

What do you make of the studios trying to distance themselves from the controversy surrounding Bryan Singer?
