Your childhood dream just became a reality. You’ll finally get to meet your favorite SpongeBob, and in the flesh, too. “SpongeBob SquarePants, the stage musical that premiered in Chicago in 2016 as ‘The SpongeBob Musical,’ opens at the Palace Theater in December,” according to a Variety article.
Christmas has officially come early! The opening night is set for December 4th, so prepare to go overboard and make sure to bring your swimsuit. The musical’s going to be one hell of a dive.
Who’s who in the cast?
Ethan Slater will star as the lovable yet naive sponge, and he’ll be joined by other cast members (e.g., Gavin Lee, Lilli Cooper, and Danny Skinner). However, the talent’s only one part of the appeal. The show’s music might as well be the main attraction. The show will feature music from Steven Tyler and Joe Perry (of Aerosmith), John Legend, Sara Bareilles, Panic! at the Disco, T.I., The Flaming Lips, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper and They Might Be Giants.
Basically, each artist has added their own style to the theater’s production.
So, if you’re a fan of cartoons, country, and classic rock, then you’re in luck.
Even with the glitz and glamour of a star-studded troupe, the plot’s enough to captivate your attention. You’ll be watching the main characters try to save their city, Bikini Bottom, from total destruction, but not from Plankton. They’ll have to try and stop a volcano from the ultimate eruption. Otherwise, Bikini Bottom could be the underwater version of Pompeii.
SpongeBob may no longer be battling a store clerk, King Neptune, or Plankton’s hitman, but he and the gang are still in a cesspool of trouble. Hopefully, they can keep afloat.
Watch them sink or swim early December at the Palace Theatre.
