After the huge success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it would have been silly not to continue with another trilogy. Disney had already planned for two more films to follow, and we know that they’ve finished most of the filming for the next piece to the saga, but we’ve been patiently awaiting a title. The wait is over!
Episode VIII‘s official title is Star Wars: The Last Jedi! What a great title considering the next film should include a lot more scenes with Luke Skywalker since Rey was able to find him at the end of the last film. We obviously don’t know that for sure, but we believe it’s a fair speculation.
We also know that the planned release date is December 15, 2017, which hopefully means we’ll get a teaser trailer soon. And we also know that Carrie Fisher was able to complete all of her work for this film prior to her death which means that her story — at least through this film — is intact. Take a look at the official tweet from the Star Wars Twitter account that includes the title logo.

We can only make guesses about the next film since the announcement didn’t include any other details, but we feel safe assuming the film will revolve around Luke teaching Rey, who could, in fact, be The Last Jedi. We also know that this film will pick up right where The Force Awakens left off. We are imagining — after the opening scroll, accompanied by the magnificent score — the scene will open to Luke and Rey on the island just as the last one ended.
