Around October of last year, rumors of an all-female spinoff of the wildly popular action series The Expendables arose after the term “Expendabelles” was coined by the former’s co-producer, Avi Lerner.

It was all just in the brainstorming stages back then, and was indeed inevitably confirmed, but not for production, and not totally officially. In a recent interview, Expendables star Sylvester Stallone was able to confirm that the project was, indeed, in development. Furthermore, Stallone revealed a partial favor towards Alien star Sigourney Weaver to take the incoming film by the horns, saying, “Are the ‘Expendabelles’ really part of a divorce? Say Sigourney Weaver was my wife and she inherited half the Expendables? I lost the house and my mercenaries!”

Lerner announced that production of The Expendabelles could begin as early as next year, with MMA fighter and Expendables 3 actress Rinda Rousey potentially being brought on as one of the film’s leads.

Some of the current names for roles in the film include Scarlett Johanssen, Uma Thurman, Linda Hamilton, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lucy Liu.
