Thirty Seconds to Mars (previously 30 Seconds to Mars) is sending their newest single “Up in the Air” into space!
There is something very poetic in that, isn’t there?
Or we could make the joke about how now Thirty Seconds to Mars is out of this world.
NASA and SpaceX will launch the song into space from Cape Canaveral where it will be traveling on a Falcon 9 rocket carrying a Dragon cargo capsule. It will land on the International Space Station where astronaut Tom Marshburn will greet it.
Marshburn and the band will do a live Q&A the day of the song’s release March 8th. It will be available on their website.
This is not the first song sent into space. Most of the music that has been launched is mainly classical. However in 2008, NASA did beam The Beatles “Across the Universe” into deep space.
Also if you think this a pretty big promotional step for the band’s next album due out in later 2013, then clearly you don’t they are world record holders. They spent two years touring their previous album “This Is War” setting a Guiness World Record for most shows played in support for a single album (311 plus shows in 60 countries on six continents). Clearly Thirty Seconds to Mars sees the adage “Go big or go home” as a personal challenge.
