The trailer for Fate Of The Furious has debuted, featuring all the high stakes action you'd expect -- along with one surprising twist.

The trailer for the latest installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise has dropped, and it looks like its main hero will be driving in a different direction.

From the start, Vin Diesel’s Dominic Torreto has always been an outlaw who bends the rules. Despite all this, one thing that has always stayed true for the character is his undying loyalty for his crew, which he has always referred to as his “family”.

But, if the trailer is enough to go by, this seems to be subverted in the upcoming Fate of The Furious. In it, we see Torreto blatantly choosing to align himself with the movie’s new villain, played by Charlize Theron. His crew is, then, called on to capture him but to no avail.

His former-rival-turned-friend-then-turned-enemy-again, Luke Hobbs, played by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, together with Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw (who served as the previous movie’s main villain), is taken out of prison to help them.

Of course, shifting alliances is not new to the franchise; Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty spent time as an amnesiac who forgot who everyone was. She even served as a lieutenant to Owen Shaw, Deckard’s younger brother and main antagonist of Fast and Furious 6.

But it is not clear if this is just a ploy on Dom’s part, he was brainwashed, or has truly turned against his own crew. I guess we’ll have to wait for the movie to be shown to find out.

In addition to Diesel, Statham, Johnson and Rodriguez, returning cast members will include Tyrese Gibson, Elsa Pataky, Nathalie Emmanuel, Lucas Black and Jordana Brewster. Kurt Russell is also set to reprise his role as the mysterious spy, Mr. Nobody.

And,, aside from Charlize Theron new cast members will include Helen Mirren, Emmanuel’s fellow Game of Thrones alum, Kristofer Hivju, and Scott Eastwood.
