Today, millions of commuters in London found themselves struggling to get to and from work after a tube strike shut down the entire underground rail system.

Approximately 20,000 workers went on strike last night in a dispute over recent announcements to introduce an all-night service starting in September.

The walkout by staff left hundreds who had attended the Wimbledon Championships, along with thousands of employees across the city, struggling to find alternative methods to get themselves home.

Buses found themselves hugely overcrowded while other individuals had no choice but to walk or cycle to work.

Millions of journeys are made on the Underground daily, so the strike has all but brought London to a halt.

London Mayor Boris Johnson, speaking on LBC Radio yesterday, said,

“The thing is ridiculous, and it’s not a well-founded strike.”

The Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association, in regards to the Night Tube plans, said in a statement:

“All we ask is for a sensible solution to the safety implications of the Night Tube, honest negotiations and a reasonable settlement on pay and hours.”
