Two 15-year-old girls are dead and schools locked down after a double shooting at Independence High School in Glendale, Arizona.

Two 15-year-old girls were killed at Independence High School in Glendale, Arizona on Friday morning. The 10th-grade girls were discovered each with a single gunshot wound outside the cafeteria building with a weapon nearby. The shooting occurred around 8AM at a covered patio near the main building.

The high school, along with many of the district’s elementary schools, had been placed on lock-down as a precaution but authorities say the situation has been stabilized and the students are in no further danger.

Glendale police Officer, Tracey Breeden was unable to comment when asked if the tragedy was a homicide, homicide-suicide or double-suicide saying she, “can’t confirm anything.” Officer Breeden added that investigators don’t think a shooter is at large adding, “There were, to our knowdedge, absolutely no threats made at the school … before, during or after.” And according to Breeden, they don’t believe the shootings were in view of other students and no witnesses have come forward.

Authorities are still investigating the relationship between the two girls, if any at all. Their identities have not been released to the public.

Our hearts and thoughts are with the friends and families of the victims and students at this tragic time.
