Although there aren’t serious talks yet on a sequel for Big Hero 6, one of Disney’s more popular films, it is possible that they will eventually make one. Even MoviePilot’s Jon Negroni agrees. Before we start freaking out and all that, let’s get into some of the reasons why a sequel can come to life.
1. Money
Big Hero 6 is one of Disney’s largest moneymaking movies as of late, with Frozen and The Lion King making more than that. Additionally, all three movies passed the $218.9 million mark of Beauty and the Beast. As much as some Disney fans like to believe that Disney isn’t all about money, it is. Disney is
still
milking the Frozen cash cow any way they can like creating a sequel/short that’s set for release on March 13th, for example. But like seriously, if they created a real-life or even a Baymax plush, I would buy one immediately. Who doesn’t love Baymax?
Albeit being one of Disney’s riskiest films, their risk paid off, not only creating a large fan-base but like I said, a new cash-cow.
2. Disney’s Newfound Interest in Sequels (Again)
Say whaaaaaaat?
Yes, they’re making those again. In the past, quite a few of Disney’s sequels weren’t that great or are even unheard of. Not too long ago, I accidentally stumbled upon Mulan 2 and in my opinion, it wasn’t great. Of course there are noteworthy exceptions like Pixar’s Toy Story. As mentioned before, Frozen is getting a sequel/short, Finding Dory has a release date, and The Incredibles 2 is finally in development. I wouldn’t be too surprised if a sequel is in the works for Big Hero 6, especially since they ended the movie on a cliffhanger, leaving us with a few questions. Who would have thought Stan Lee was his dad? Or is Tadeshi REALLY dead?
Another reason for a possible sequel is due to the movie being based on a Marvel Comic. Marvel, who is now owned by Disney, is known for making successful sequels to its many superhero films like The Avengers and Iron Man, just to name a few. With this in mind, I’m pretty convinced they’ll end up making one, even more so with Big Hero 6 since it IS a superhero film.

Big Hero 6 is a great story and I’m not saying that because

, I’m saying it because
it’s true
. Throughout the entire film despite its endearing and hilarious moments, it had a significant theme that we could all relate to at one point in our lives: loss. From Hiro losing his brother Tadashi in the fire to Hiro letting go of Beymax in an outerworld dimension, the feels were everywhere… well for me they were. I can’t be the only one who cried, right?
I gotta hand it to Disney, though. They’ve created such wonderful stories that stick with us, and this film is no exception. In the words of Chris Williams, co-director of Big Hero 6, “If it’s not a great story, it won’t be a great movie. The crew deserves a great story. And we have expectations from the audience, who grew up with Disney animation. They deserve a great story, too.”
