San Diego Comic Con has been treating fans of The Walking Dead pretty well so far. These last few days have revealed a slew of new information regarding both the TV show and the book series on which the former is based.

First off, we got a great picture of a brand new character, Bob Stookey. We lost quite a few familiar faces last season, but it’s hard to deny that it’s nice to see a new one. Although, to be fair, he isn’t too new to older fans of the series – Bob Stookey is a character from The Walking Dead comic book, as a matter of fact.

Lawrence Gilliard, Jr., of The Wire fame, plays the character of Bob Stookey. The TV version of the character was an army medic, and Daryl Dixon finds him just before season four picks up.  The Walking Dead’s new showrunner, Scott M. Gimple, had this to say of his version of Bob Stookey: “I think he’s seen things go bad over and over, and winding up in this stable place doesn’t shake him from his experience. He struggles with that.”

Gilliard also gave input on his interpretation of the character he plays: “You can see there’s something deeper and darker that’s going on with this character, just from the first episode. We don’t really know what it is. We just know he’s got some issues that he’s dealing with.” What can be more traumatizing than trying to survive in a post-zombie-apocalypse world? Whatever it is has left Stookey haunted, according to the actor.

In other The Walking Dead news, a new prose novel has been announced. The Walking Dead: The Fall Of The Governor will be written by the show’s creator Robert Kirkman, as well as Jay Bonansinga. It will be the third novel of the zombie series.  As one would expect, this novel picks up after the events of The Rise of the Governor and The Road to Woodbury.

The novel will hit shelves in October.
