If you have seen The Grandmaster, you have likely come away with a few questions. The most important: who is the true grandmaster? Is it Ip Man, the subject of the critically acclaimed film, or is it Wong Kar-Wai, a director with so much vision and talent, he is being placed amongst the likes of Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino as one of the greatest living filmmakers. Well, with its impressive awards haul at the Asian Film Awards today, it proves that Wong Kar-Wai is without a doubt a grandmaster of filmmaking.
The awards, which are the most prestigious entertainment award in Asian cinema, gave the historical drama seven awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress in the case of Zhang Ziyi.
The film, which tells the story of Ip Man, the legendary martial artist who trained legends such as Bruce Lee, received universal acclaim, and was shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
