As made evident by his role in the recent Hunger Games franchise, Woody Harrelson is no stranger to playing a mentor to iconic characters.
According to a recent report by Variety, Harrelson is currently first on the list to play the currently unnamed mentor of young Han Solo (to be played by Alden Ehrenreich) in the upcoming Han Solo standalone film.
The much anticipated film, which is set to be released by Disney and Lucasfilm in May of 2018, will also feature popular Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke and legendary actor, Danny Glover.
Disney and Lucasfilm have set the bar high with the most recent Star Wars spinoff, Roque One: A Star Wars Story, which has grossed over $800 million worldwide since its release on December 16, 2016 and is still screening.
The film is set to be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, with Kathleen Kennedy and Allison Shearmur producing.
Harrelson and Shearmur have worked together before on The Hunger Games, so a reunion between the two is not out of the question.
Disney has yet to comment on Harrelson’s possible casting, but the former Cheers star has been keeping busy since his last stream of successful ventures, Zombieland in 2009, and The Hunger Games series between 2012 and 2015.
Harrelson has appeared in Triple 9, Now You See Me 2, LBJ, and The Edge of Seventeen. Harrelson’s 2017 schedule looks equally as full with upcoming roles in The Glass Castle, Wilson, and the much-hyped War of the Planet of the Apes, in which he stars as a main antagonist.
If Harrelson’s recent string of major roles is anything to go by, he may be adding Disney’s Han Solo standalone to his list of upcoming projects sooner rather than later.
