That special time of the year is fast approaching again. One of the only other times, apart from Halloween, when it’s frowned on not to be in costume. Where it’s an every day occurrence to see Doctors, Stormtroopers, superheroes and others wandering the streets of sunny San Diego.

Yes! Comic-Con is nipping at our heels and following the success of it last year, the Course of the Force relay will be heralding the start of the event with a few celeb guests along for the run.

Course of the Force is a lightsaber relay race that kicks off on 9th July at Skywalker Ranch, just north of San Francisco and ends in San Diego on 16th July for the start of Comic-Con the following day. The relay is organised by Lucasfilm and Nerdist Industries. It will raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Thousands are expected to come in their best Star Wars costumes and run a leg of the 500 mile relay and amongst them are a dozen celebrities. They are Glee’sChris Colfer, model Adrianne Curry, Alexis Denisof (Angel), Jordana Brewster (Fast & Furious), Wilmer Valderrama (That ‘70s Show), Jaime King (Hart of Dixie), Kyle Newman (Fanboys), Analeigh Tipton (Crazy, Stupid, Love), Molly Quinn (Castle), Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights), Ty Simpkins (Iron Man 3), Danielle Panabaker (Necessary Roughness) and Kevin Shinick (Robot Chicken).

Each runner is to run a quarter-mile of the relay wearing their Star Wars themed costume. Given Colfer’s love of making his own costumes and his creativeness with his past birthdays and Halloweens, I can’t wait to see what he comes up with for this event. There will be an official lightsaber “baton” that will be passed from participant to participant.

There will be numerous opportunities for viewing the relay along its journey as well as “conivals” set up in San Francisco, Santa Monica, Huntington Beach and Oceanside. These conivals will be open to the public. They will feature food and drink, live entertainment, expo booths and giveaways.

Registrations are still open for spots in the relay. For $150, you get to run the quarter mile in the relay, receive a customized lightsaber and a swag bag. For more information about the event and to register can be found at the official site.
