Last December, Director Bryan Singer broke the heart of many X-Men fans when he announced through Entertainment Weekly, that Anna Paquin, who plays Rogue, will be edited out from the final cut of X-Men: Days of Future Past due to time constraints. “Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous. It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go,” Singer explained.
But, we will see Rogue on screen after all. Fans noticed Paquin’s name in the credits of the newest trailer. 20th Century Fox just confirmed through Buzzfeed that Paquin is back in the film! However, the rep from Fox did clarify “Essentially, [it’s] a cameo.”
Well, we will take what we can get. After all Rogue was an integral figure in the first movie, a part of the original cast. X-Men is more than just Wolverine, no matter how cool the character and how talented the actor playing him is.
Set in the 1970’s and the not so distant future X-Men: Days of Future Past, has gathered the cast of the original trilogy and that of the prequel X-Men First Class. It has also added more additional characters from the marvel universe. So, it is perfectly understandable that certain judgment calls had to be made to maintain the movie’s pacing, and not to make it too long for movie audiences.
Thankfully, they have chosen to squeeze in screen time for a beloved character played by an academy award winning actress.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to hit the big screen on May 23.
