Barbra Streisand Pens Op-Ed Calling On Trump To Acknowledge Climate Change

Barbra Streisand has written an Op-Ed calling on President Donald Trump to acknowledge climate change.

Film, theater, and music legend Barbra Streisand has written an Op-Ed for the Huffington Post calling on President Donald Trump to acknowledge climate change.

“These latest hurricanes really hit home for me, because I started my last tour in Houston and ended in three cities in Florida – the last being Miami,” Streisand wrote, referring to the twin calamities of Hurricanes Irma and Harvey striking at Florida and Texas.

She then went on to talk about what the scientific community has been warning us about for years.” Fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas create heat–trapping emissions in the atmosphere, warming the planet. The oceans are warming as well – and the warmer the oceans, the stronger the storms,” she explains. “Donald Trump can visit all the disaster areas he wants – but what can you do when he and his administration don’t acknowledge the science behind climate change, even removing information from the Environmental Protection Agency website.”

Streisand also called on people to act, telling them to “write your representatives… call the White House… demand that they start working on clean and renewable energy, like solar and wind, that don’t pollute the atmosphere.”

Donald Trump memorably pulled the United States out of the Paris climate change accord on June 1, 2017. Turning the country into just one of four in the world that are not members of the agreement. However, the three other countries did not do so because they did not acknowledge the importance of climate change, in fact it is the opposite.

Nicaragua is not a signatory because they believed that the Paris Agreement was not tough enough on combating climate change. In 2015, Syria was in the middle of a civil war, and the Vatican was unable to sign because they were not officially a member of the United Nations Framework Convention On Climate Change at the time, however they have plans to officially join and sign the agreement.

Trump’s action received criticism from all over the world and within the United States. And Barbra Streisand is not the only celebrity to have come out and called out the President on climate change.

Just recently during the Hand In Hand telethon Hurricane relief telethon which aired on September 12, and was also headlined by Streisand, Stevie Wonder said, “As we begin to love and value our planet… anyone who believes that there is no such thing as global warming must be blind or unintelligent. Lord, please save us all.” While rapper Vic Mensa told Billboard backstage during the event that, “You can’t come out and say we pray for Houston, we support Houston, and then deny climate change.”

Well hopefully Trump will start to listen, but so far not even the combined voices of world leaders, business leaders, politicians, celebrities or his own family members have been able to convince him to acknowledge climate change.

Make one wonder what would it take for him to acknowledge climate change.
