Fresh off his Oscar win,, Eddie Redmayne seems not to be resting on his laurels, as he has just gone on to tackle another difficult role to play.
In the upcoming film The Danish Girl, Redmayne will be portraying the role of Lili Elbe, who was one of the first people to undergo gender reassignment surgery way back in the 1930s.
It is a very interesting role, and may very well lead to more awards for the gifted actor.
Speaking to GQ UK, where he features in the cover this month, Redmayne revealed some of his thoughts on his new project.
“People go, ‘Oh are you doing this transformative thing?’ It’s not a concerted choice. I think it will be a unique experience.” Redmayne said.
He also talked about the need to research properly and getting to capture the essence of Lili: “There is so much I need to investigate. It’s a very famous story within the trans community. If your dream is to tell stories, interesting stories, play interesting people. That’s the bottom line,” he said.
Then he added,”The people that I play have to be extraordinary.”
An extraordinary role for an extraordinary actor–sounds good, doesn’t it?
Be sure to check Redmayne out when The Danish Girl hits theaters on November 27.
