Fresh from a glamorous night at the Video Music Awards last Sunday, Ellie Goulding finds herself at the top of the UK singles chart for the third week in a row.

“Burn” which is the first single off the reissue of her second studio album HalcyonHalcyon Days, currently sits over 4,500 copies ahead of Avicii’s Wake Me Up, the nearest rival.

The song was originally intended to be on Leona Lewis’ Glassheart last year, however it failed to make the grade for Ms Lewis.  Ellie has given the song her signature indie-pop touch and has made it one of her most radio-friendly songs to date. Nevertheless, it has met with mixed reviews, some praising her vocal abilities, while others criticizing the lack of a “memorable” element in it.

Other songs in the chart are Klangkarusell’s “Sonnentanz”, Avenged Sevenfold with “Hail To The King”, and Cedric Gervais’ remix of Lana del Rey’s song, “Summer Sadness”. Former Westlife heart-throb Shane Filan has entered the chart at number seven with his debut solo single “Everything to Me”.
