Emilia Clarke Set To Swap Dragons For Terminators In 2015

Staff Writer

For weeks there’s been speculation on the internet that Emilia Clarke was in line to play Sarah Connor in the new reboot from Skydance, Paramount, and Annapurna Pictures. Well, the rumors are officially true. Clarke has beat out Brie Larson and Margot Robbie for the role of the waitress-turned-warrior. Linda Hamilton originated the role the first two Terminator films: The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. In other casting news, it’s been revealed that Zero Dark Thirty‘s Jason Clarke (no relation) will play Connor’s son John, a role originated by Edward Furlong and Michael Edwards.

Now, fans of the movie series will be eagerly awaiting official plot summaries for this installment. Why? Well, Jason is forty-four years old and Emilia is in her twenties. Rope of Silicon and Deadline are both reporting that time travel will be employed in the film (which will eventually turn into a trilogy) and that John is sent back in time to protect Sarah from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 and a slew of other terminators sent to kill her. Nothing’s been confirmed yet but if this is the case, the movies will possibly pull inspiration from Fox’s failed TV series The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Funny enough, Sarah Connor starred Cersi Lannister herself, Emilia’s Game of Throne’s co-star, Lena Heady.

Terminator: Genesis, as the film’s been tentatively titled, will reunite Emilia with her former Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor. Taylor recently helmed the Marvel Phase Two film Thor: The Dark World.

Genesis has already secured a prime July release date for 2015. It is written by Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier. According to reports, Megan Ellison’s Annapurna purchased the rights from James Cameron for over twenty million dollars with the intention of making at least two Terminator films. The rights revert back to Cameron in 2019.

It looks like Emilia is about to have her hands full. Season four of Game of Thrones airs next year and filming for series five (unless they pull a fast one on us and kill her next season) should begin not long after, or even during, her filming for the movie. Either way, she’s going to pull it off with grace poise.
