As you can see, there are plenty of new shows in FOX’s schedule. Just like in ABC’s schedule, only three new shows (Lethal Weapon, The Exorcist and Son of Zorn) will debut in the fall. The remaining nine series will premiere in midseason. You can check out what the new shows are about, here. FOX has not released any trailers of its new shows; as soon as it does, you will be the first to know.
Interestingly, aside from Kicking and Screaming – a reality competition series about mismatched duos dropped off in a jungle in Fiji and expected to get through extreme conditions, hosted by New Girl’s Hannah Simone – there are no unscripted series in the schedules (bye American Idol!).
Another noteworthy thing we notice is how FOX has scheduled long hiatuses of some of its shows, which will return later in the spring, after another show takes over to bridge that gap between fall and spring. This will happen with Monday staples Gotham and Lucifer, replaced in midseason by 24: Legacy and APB respectively; and with Empire, whose slot will be seized by Lee Daniels’s Star, before the Taraji P. Henson-helmed show comes back in spring.
24: Legacy will certainly have a strong premiere as it debuts right after the Super Bowl on Sunday February 5th, 2017. The other big FOX reboot, Prison Break, will undertake Bones’ slot in the winter of 2017.
Speaking of reboots, movie adapted Lethal Weapon will be replacing Rosewood in the fall schedule, as the latter will now switch to Thursdays and be paired up with Bones. Lethal Weapon will get the coveted spot alongside FOX juggernaut Empire.
Meanwhile, on Tuesdays, the survivors of FOX’s comedy block, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and New Girl, will open the night. A 13-episode season of Scream Queens will follow. Scream Queens will be replaced in midseason by the aforementioned reality competition show Kicking and Screaming – and Pitch, after it premieres in spring. The Mick will take over the 8:30p.m. timeslot while New Girl and Brooklyn Nine-Nine alternate the 8p.m. slot.
Sundays at 8:30p.m. will be the reserved for new shows during both fall and midseason. Jason Sudeikis-voiced hybrid live-action and animated comedy Son of Zorn will premiere in the fall; and the Adam Pally and Leighton Meester time travelling comedy, Making History, will take its place in midseason.
FOX also scheduled its revival of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which will air during Halloween week.
