After a heartbreakingly long break allowing fans to come to grips with the death of Downton heir, Matthew Crawley, Downton Abbey returned with a flourish and some roaring 20s flare on Sunday night. While Matthew’s death has affected those above stairs, we also saw how it has affected those below stairs as well. None more so than his valet, Moseley (Kevin Doyle).
With the death of his Master and his purpose for being at Downton removed, Moseley has been given the six months to work out what he plans to do with himself. Unfortunately, life in Britain has changed following World War I, and a valet is not as in demand as they once were and Moseley struggles to find employment. Jealousy from other downstairs staff certainly doesn’t help his chances of securing a position either.
Today ITV has released the first sneak peek clip from this weekend’s second episode and follows up on life for Moseley. Featuring a moving scene between Moseley and Anna Bates (Joanne Froggatt), we see how far Moseley has fallen. Anna, feeling compassion for his situation, offers to help him out with a cash loan, but Digital Spy hints that she “may be facing her own difficulties in upcoming episodes.”
In speaking about the Bates’ season 4 storyline, Froggatt’s on-screen husband, Brendan Cole (Mr Bates) revealed, “All I will say is that something happens that shakes the Bates’ world and has serious consequences.” Could Anna’s offer to help out Moseley be the start of this?
