The final season of How I Met Your Mother has been filled with guest stars of the past returning to reprise their past roles like Wayne Brady as Barney’s brother, John Lithgow as Barney’s father, and Bryan Cranston as Ted’s former co-worker Hammond Druthers. It looks like we will be adding another past guest star to the list as James Van Der Beek confirmed on twitter Friday that he would be reprising his role on the show!

Fans of the show will remember that Van Der Beek played the role of Simon, Robin’s ex-boyfriend.  He’s been in two episodes of the show and the last time we saw him was the episode last year called “P.S. I Love You”. He’s shown in the episode when Barney is confronting him to find out if he is the “P.S” that Robin is singing about as Robin Sparkles’ for the song “P.S. I Love You”.

It’s currently unclear about what his character will be up to in the appearance but considering the past two appearances his character has made have had to do with Robin Sparkles, maybe we can hope for another Robin Sparkles’ flashback?

While we don’t know what Simon will be up to we can tell you that according to the script Van Der Beek posted a picture of, he looks to be appearing in the episode called “Bedtime Stories”. There’s not current date released yet for when it’ll be airing but it looks to be sometime in December.
