In an effort to increase subscribers to music streaming service Tidal. Producer, Rapper and Tidal co-owner Jay Z has decided to give away free concert tickets!
Last Tuesday, the streaming service sent out a mass e-mail to its users that they are offering a couple of free tickets to the Budweiser Made In America festival, for the the first 500 subscribers who would take up the deal.
Of course, tickets were immediately taken up by eager fans. And that is one good lesson for all of us: Always check your e-mail.
Budweiser Made In America Festival was founded by Jay Z on 2012. This year’s event will be held on September 5 and 6, and although no line-up has been announced as of yet, it is expected that big names in the music industry would be involved. Past performers have included, Kings of Leon, Tiesto, Pharrel Wiliams and Beyonce.
The tickets giveaway is part of a series of marketing strategies that have seen Jay Z perform an exclusive B sides concert for subscribers as well as releasing an exclusive music video from Beyonce and Nicki Minaj for Tidal users.
The struggling streaming service which offers no free ad supported version has struggled to compete with rival, Spotify which has one.
Whether this marketing tactics works, though, remains to be seen.
