Pop 5 Favorite Fictional Couples

There’s nothing quite like being in love. To celebrate all things romantic, take a look at five of our favorite fictional couples.

There’s nothing like the feeling of love. Something about the rush of emotions combined with the feeling of companionship brings a certain kind of joy to a person’s life. Even when things are rough, love can help find a way through. Here are a few of our favourite couples, who have been through it all and come out on top.

Amy and Rory, Doctor Who

Whovians seem to be divided on Amy and Rory; some believe they shouldn’t be together while others are firmly on the side of “together or not at all”. Wherever you fall on the Amy/Rory spectrum, it’s hard to deny the kind of devotion and dedication they show each other. Rory guarded her for 2,000 years to keep her safe, and Amy choose death time and time again over a life without him. During their time as companions they faced not only the danger of the Doctor’s enemies, but other, more relatable issues like infertility and the fear of abandonment. Despite it all, they wound up together and more in love than before.

Kate Kane and Maggie Sawyer, Batwoman

DC Comics

Kate Kane, a.k.a. Batwoman, first met Detective Maggie Sawyer in the pages of Elegy, a breathtaking graphic novel by Greg Rucka and J.H. Williams III, and continued their relationship through Williams’ subsequent run on Batwoman. They began their relationship slowly, and faced many complications along the way. Kate’s extracurricular activities as a masked vigilante tended to conflict with Detective Sawyer’s more by the book approach to fighting crime. Still, they found a way to make it work, with each going to great lengths to protect the other. The series brilliantly avoided the cliche of the “partner who doesn’t know” by having Kate reveal her secret identity through proposing to Maggie while still wearing the cape and cowl.

Jim and Pam, The Office

Jim and Pam are probably one of the cutest couples to have ever graced our television screens. In addition to being absolutely adorable, their relationship is perfectly relatable. They endured what they thought were one sided crushes on the other, with Jim watching her nearly marry Roy, and Pam witnessing the blossoming relationship between Jim and Karen. Later, after they began dating, they faced distance, grief, career changes, and parenthood. Through it all, they stayed strong and showed us all that love can win in the end.

April and Andy, Parks and Rec

There’s no denying the sweet and touching relationship that Leslie and Ben developed throughout the run of the show. Ann and Chris were also an amazing couple, but nothing comes close to the quirky and meaningful relationship that bloomed between April and Andy. They support each other in a way that other couples envy, and genuinely want what is best for the other. April is able to draw out the best in Andy, and Andy will stop at nothing to make her smile. That’s the kind of relationship we all deserve to have.

Zoe and Wash, Firefly

Zoe and Wash had the kind of marriage that could survive damned near anything. Zoe has a fierce devotion to Wash, the ship’s pilot, and Wash has a love for her that exceeds all others. They bring out the best in each other, and are best friends to boot. Zoe and Wash had drastically different, but complimentary, skills. Their mutual respect and admiration was one of the most comforting parts of the short-lived series.
