Home of the Cronut, a croissant-doughnut, the Dominique Ansel Bakery has been closed for the weekend due to a video posted online of a mouse running through the kitchen.
The video prompted four different health inspectors to show up at the bakery. The inspectors informed Ansel that her bakery needed to be exterminated and the concrete floor redone before they could reopen.
A Dominique Ansel spokeswoman wrote in an email, “We of course believe that we run a clean and good operation, but see that we were targeted and will rise to the occasion to be even better… We hope to be opened mid-day on Monday.”
Generally, fans of the Cronut have been understanding, one customer said, “This is New York. Anyone who operates under the pretense that their food is ‘clean’ is delusional… If I are a Cronut, then found out the next day it had been ravaged by mouse paws, I wouldn’t regret having eaten it. They’re delicious.”
