Today is the day many StarKids have been waiting for. Jaime Lyn Beatty of Team Starkid has finally released her debut EP, Dolphin Safe Tunes, and it’s out on iTunes and Amazon TODAY!
In January 2013, Beatty launched a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign for the project, which was over-funded by more than 500 backers anxious to hear Beatty’s album. Widely regarded as Stardkid’s most powerful female vocalist, the demand for the project was huge, generating more than $20,000 in less than a month. Rewards included Skype concerts, personalized songs, prerelease access to the EP downloads, signed CD’s, and even a trip to Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium.
The EP, which was put together with the help of Michael Malarkey (Musical Director for SecondCity) is a 5-song collection of original music inspired by the sounds of Kenny Loggins, Belle and Sebastian, Eartha Kitt and Stevie Wonder.
On the album’s Kickstarter page, Jaime Lyn writes:
Dolphin Safe Tunes is a collection of songs I’ve been working on for the past two years. This EP is my maiden voyage into songwriting and I’m all at once excited, terrified, and jazzed (all puns, ALWAYS intended!). A tip of the hat to classic cabaret acts and Motown funk, these tunes are enriched with equal parts silliness and sass! I can only hope you have as much fun listening to them as I had writing them!
