‘Super Star Wars’ Coming to PS4 and PS Vita This Week

In exciting news for Star Wars and video game fans, the 1992 Super Nintendo game, ‘Super Star Wars’ will be released for the PlayStation 4 and the PS Vita.

Super Star Wars is being released for the PlayStation 4 and the PS Vita tomorrow! Super Star Wars was a video game released for the Super Nintendo in 1992. Based off of A New Hope, the single-player side-scrolling action game featured Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca, as playable characters. Players basically re-enacted the events of the film with lots of shooting action, and some vehicle and space battles thrown in for good measure. Vehicles included a landspeeder and an X-wing, and a lightsaber was eventually one of the available weapons.

The game features visual design by Jon Knoles with  backgrounds drawn by Harrison Fong and music by composer Paul Webb. It won Best Action/Adventure Game and Best Movie-to-Game in 1992, as decided by Electronic Gaming Monthly.

Sony has said the game will include new features and is being released as a Cross Buy game, meaning once it’s purchased for one system it is automatically unlocked on the other. The official description for Super Star Wars reads:

Enhanced for PS4 with new save features, leaderboards, Trophies, and updated display and controller options. Risk your life as a Jedi Knight! Join Luke, Han, and Chewbacca in their fierce war against the evil Empire.

The game was previously re-released in 2009 for the Nintendo Virtual Console and will be released for both the PlayStation 4 and the PS Vita tomorrow (November 17). Hopefully this means the game’s sequels depicting the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi will follow!
