The latest casting news for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 says that Chris Cooper (American Beauty) will be playing Norman Osbourne in the sequel. Previously, in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, the role was played by Willem Dafoe.
Cooper joins an already-impressive ensemble cast, including Jamie Foxx (Ray) and Paul Giamatti (Sideways). Dane DeHaan (Chronicle)will be playing Harry Osbourne, Norman’s son, who was played by James Franco in Raimi’s trilogy.
Cooper’s Norman Osbourne will, in fact, be taking a turn as the Green Goblin, either in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or its sequel, but not before acting as a mentor to Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield). Nothing has been said yet about if and how Osbourne will fit in with the likes of The Rhino (Giamatti) or Electro (Foxx).
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to open in 3D on May 2, 2014.
