More bad news for Whovians who hoped for as many returning characters as possible for the 50th anniversary: after Freema Agyeman (Martha Jones) announced that she would probably not be playing a role in the anniversary special, now Peter Davison (Fifth Doctor) has done the same, claiming that there would be no use for him or his colleagues from the old seasons now that they have aged this much.
Of course, he has a good point, because it might be rather odd to see Tom Baker’s Fourth Doctor as a 79 year old man, but for many there was still hope that perhaps Steven Moffat could think of something brilliant. Peter Davison seems to suggest that we shouldn’t expect a miracle, though, and that when it was said that all Doctors would feature, most likely it was meant that the old Doctors would be shown with the use of archived materials.
So far nothing has actually been confirmed yet, and the only characters who will certainly make an appearance are Jenna-Louise Coleman’s Clara Oswin Oswald and Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor. Other than that only John Barrowman (Jack Harkness) has acknowledged that he has been approached by the BBC, while all the other companions and Doctors have either stated that they were not contacted yet or even that they don’t expect any involvement at all.
