So if you know a little something about baseball history, you know all about Jackie Robinson. But here’s the run down: Jackie Robinson broke the ‘modern colour line’ in Major League Baseball back on April 15th, 1947 when he started on first base for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson was a major player in the American Civil Rights Movement who dispelled the common basis for racial segregation.
Jackie Robinson’s baseball career played like a highlight reel of top moments; World Series, awards, All-Star Games and eventually, the Baseball Hall of Fame; all done while wearing the number 42 jersey.
Now let’s talk about the movie. The cast is FULL of talent; Chadwick Boseman plays Jackie Robinson, Harrison Ford plays Branch Rickey, Alan Tudyk plays Ben Chapman and Christopher Meloni plays Leo Durocher, just to name a few. It is a poignant and important story for everyone to know. Jackie Robinson is one of the great influencers of American history, trying to do something as simple as playing the game he loved but it meant so much more than that.
42 comes out April 12th, 2013.
