Can you call it a comeback if most of his fans never really considered him gone? I know that sounds cheesy and obviously it’s a “comeback” as in “Hey, look, I’ve made you some new music!” but let’s be real here. The man is a living legend, so it’s not like he’s come back from being forgotten. That being said, David Bowie’s latest album (the first in over a decade) was released last week and has quickly climbed the music charts.
NME reports that The Next Day is Bowie’s first #1 album in the UK (where he’s from) since the 1993 album, Black Tie White Noise. Also, it is the fastest selling album of 2013, which frankly, restores my faith in the human race as still possibly having decent taste in music! Interestingly, the #2 album last week was Bon Jovi’s latest effort What About Now?, which Bowie outsold almost 2 to 1.
More fun facts about Bowie’s record breaking album reported by Billboard: The Next Day will be his first album in the Top 10 since 1983’s Let’s Dance (which peaked at number 4) and if it does get the number one spot, which was set to be released the morning of Wednesday, March 20, it will be his highest selling album in the US, beating 1976’s Station to Station which held the #3 spot.
