It’s been a long wait for fans of the demigod Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) but after three years he is finally set to return to our screens for his next adventure, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. While we do have to wait until August 2013 to reward you all for your patience, USA Today has recently shared five amazing new stills from the upcoming movie.
Check them out below!
The first photo shows Percy and Athena’s daughter, Annabeth Chase (Alexandra Daddario) teaming up again in the new film. Director Thor Freudenthal has said that the two are “the best of friends”. However, for fans wanting them to be something more, he revealed that while there is definitely “deep affection” for each other “they are not a couple”. He did inspire some hope though by then adding “You don’t know until the end where the relationship is really headed”. I guess we’re just going to have to wait and see in August.
The second shot is the obligatory group image. This one shows us Tyson the Cyclops (newcomer to the franchise Douglas Smith), Ares’ daughter Clarissa La Rue (Leven Rambin), the goat-like satyr Grover (Brandon T. Jackson), Annabeth and Percy. Apparently they are attempting to retrieve the mythical Golden Fleece in order to save Percy’s home. Now whether this is before Jason and his Argonauts got their hands on it or afterwards, again we have to wait for August. In describing the character of Clarisse, Freudenthal says that “she goes from camp rival to unlikely ally to Percy”. Looks like we might have another feisty female on our hands which is always good to see.
The third image has Percy leading Grover and Annabeth out of Camp Half Blood to retrieve the Golden Fleece. Obviously the film will illustrate this better as it doesn’t really appear that way from this image. Freudenthal confirms that they have to “sneak out of their own camp”.
The fourth image has Percy running either from or to something.
The final image is of Percy with the god of wine himself, Dionysus (Stanley Tucci) and he is certainly rocking that leopard print shirt. Definitely need to have imbibed something to wear that. However, rumour has it that Dionysus is not allowed to drink as a punishment from Zeus, so maybe the shirt is in protest of that.
With the film’s release still months away, here’s hoping that we get gems like these to help us through the wait.
