He is best known as Emmett Cullen in the Twilight saga, but Kellan Lutz is now set to play the lead role of Hercules in the $70 million feature, Hercules 3D!
Discussing this major casting, director Renny Harlin (The Covenant, Die Hard 2) referred to this as Kellan’s “breakout role” and a chance for him “to grow and shine as an actor.”Harlin added that the character of Hercules requires more than the good physique we all know Kellan has (!!), but his personality as well, saying “He’s not afraid to explore the strengths and vulnerabilities of the character, and he impressed me with his passion and heart”
Although plot specifics are being kept on the down low, the film will reportedly focus on the love shared between Hercules and the mortal princess of Crete, who has been promised to his older brother.
Hercules 3D is set to begin filming in Bulgaria in May, and due for cinema release in March 2014.
