The president of the United States – in the world of ABC’s Scandal, of course! – is the latest casting for Lionsgate-Summit’s adaptation of Veronica Roth’s best-selling dystopian YA novelDivergent.  According to The Wrap, Goldwyn will be taking on the role of Tris’ (Shailene Woodley) father in the thrilling adventure film.  The role had previously been attributed to Aaron Eckhart but this latest casting news has definitely put that rumor to rest.

Divergent will have all the elements of the futuristic world of the book, in which the population is divided into factions based on their personality traits.  The story follows a young girl (Tris) as she discovers that she is “divergent” and doesn’t fit into a particular group.  Her quest to find out why her kind is targeted for being different, will lead her to an action-packed adventure where unexpected romance is sure to blossom.

Goldwyn is currently one of the main stars on ABC’s political thriller, Scandal, along with Kerry Washington.  Despite its rough patch in ratings during Season 1, the series is getting ready to end its second season on May 16 – it has yet to be renewed for a third.
