For those of you who may not know the details about Broadchurch, it was originally an iTV production, but has since been bought by the BBC to air sometime later in 2013. It’s a detective series featuring two Doctor Who alums, David Tennant and Arthur Darvill.

Chibnall has not only penned several previous Doctor Who episodes, including “42, The Hungry Earth, Cold Blood, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, and The Power of Three”, but he was also the head writer and co-producer of the Doctor Who spinoff, Torchwood.

In an interview with Cultbox, Chibnall reveals, “I hope to [return for series eight], and Steven has been good enough to ask.” “So we’ll just see if all the schedules figure out and stuff like that. But it’s always lovely to be on the list.”

Chibnall added, “It’s a delight to go in and write a Doctor Who.” “Steven is a great showrunner to work for, and you always do a Doctor Who if there’s time, because you can tell stories you can’t tell anywhere else.”

But for now, we still have plenty of season 7 goodness to look forward to, including the 50th anniversary episode set to air in November, and the ever popular Christmas episode, set to air on Christmas day. Stay tuned to PopWrapped for all the timey wimey wibbly wobbly Doctor Whoness!
