Hannibal show creator Bryan Fuller said ” Given the cultural climate in the US following Monday’s attack and the recent Sandy Hook shooting, it wouldn’t be appropriate to air such an episode.” He followed up by saying ” I didn’t want anyone to come to the show and have a negative experience, whenever you write a story and look at the sensational aspects of storytelling, you think, this is interesting metaphorically, and this is interesting as social commentary.”

Fuller continued on to say ” With this episode, it wasn’t about the graphic imagery or violence, it was the associations that came with the subject matter that I felt it would inhibit the overall enjoyment of the episode…it was my own sensitivity.”

NBC has said that this will not affect whether or not Hannibal will stay or go as a series on the network. They will be skipping ahead to the fifth episode in the season, which makes it so that the season finale should air on June 20th.
