Comedy Central has announced that after the second half of season seven, Futurama will not be renewed again.

The sci-fi comedy animated show was created by The Simpsons creator Matt Groening and originally ran from 1999 to 2003. The show then left the air and continued as a series of direct-to-DVD episodes.

The show was reinstated to Comedy Central for two 26-episode long seasons. Comedy Central executive Dave Bernath says that “the series has reached its natural end after one helluva run.”

While the series is ending on Comedy Central, Groening says he’ll continue searching for a third home for the show. “We would love to continue. We have many more stories to tell,” he said.

The second half of season seven is set to air June 19th in the US. The finale episode will focus on the long-anticipated wedding between Fry and Leela and will air September 4th.
