It looks as though Shakespeare’s Macbeth is getting ready to hit the big screen, and Michael Fassbender is going to be along for the ride.
According to Screen Daily, Fassbender has been chosen to play the infamous Scot (Macbeth) in the film, which will be directed by Justin Kurzel. The part of Lady Macbeth has yet to be cast, but reportedly there is a leading Hollywood actress in the mix.
The film will be produced by See Saw – the company that produced The King’s Speech – and will be written by Todd Louiso and Jacob Koskoff.
Screen Daily has said that, “the new take on Shakespeare’s classic – about a ruthlessly ambitious Scottish lord who siezes the throne with the help of his scheming wife and three witches – is set in the 11th century and in the original language. The script is understood to be a visceral approach to the story including significant battle scenes.”
Hopefully this film will be able to meet the expectations of the hardcore Shakespeare fans out there (myself included!).
