It’s a sad day for all those Nina/Ian shippers out there. According to Us Weekly, after a few months of rumors, it is now official: Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder have split up. The two had been dating for over three years after their romance began on the set of The CW’s successful series The Vampire Diaries back in 2010.

Fortunately, the two don’t seem to have developed any bad feelings towards each other. The two of them “will continue to work together and remain best friends, which is where the relationship started,” an anonymous source told Us Weekly. This means that hopefully we will still see the two being the happy couple they have always been, just without the romance.

Last September, Nina opened up about her relationship with Ian by saying “I didn’t want to be dating one of my co-stars. My goal on the show was to be a professional, but sometimes you can’t help who you have a connection with, and you can only fight it for so long.”

A new episode of The Vampire Diaries, titled “The Walking Dead,” will air on The CW tonight at 8 PM. After that there will only be one more episode before the fourth season is wrapped up, and filming for the fifth season won’t start until later this year. In the meantime, Nina will spend her summer shooting for a new film titled Let’s Be Cops, which is scheduled to be released in 2014.
