Iron Man continues to rocks the box office
For the second week in a row Iron Man 3 has taken the top spot at the box office with $72.5 million.
The highly anticipated Great Gatsby movie pulled in a strong $51 million – despite the lackluster reviews – but it just wasn’t enough to take that top spot. According to Inside Movies, that is the third best opening for a movie that didn’t debut at number one (following The Day After Tomorrow and the first Sherlock Holmes). A spokesperson from Warner Bros., Dan Fellman, said that the opening “exceeded all our expectations.”
Third place belonged to Pain & Gain which brought in $5 million over the weekend.
Summer film season has just begun, and it is looking like it is going to be a battle of the blockbusters. Let’s see if either of these movies can stay at the top with Star Trek Into Darkness opening next week in North America (it has made $31 million so far in the areas where it is open).
What movies are you most excited about seeing this summer?
