The project, which is directed, co-written, and starring the Scrubs star was funded via a Kickstarter campaign.  The goal of the campaign was to raise $2 million in 30 days, a goal which was met in just under 72 hours.  To date, the campaign which is scheduled to end May 24th has raised over $2.6 million.

Gad, who was nominated for a Tony award for his role as Elder Cunningham in The Book of Mormon, recently learned that his series 1600 Penn had been cancelled after only one season of very low ratings on NBC.  Gad, who will play Braff’s brother, will also appear in the upcoming Google comedy flick, The Internship.

Wish I Was Here, which Braff is co-writing with his brother Adam, is being produced by Double Feature Films.  The film will also star Mandy Patinkin, star of AMC’s Homelandand also a veteran of the Broadway stage.
