Staff Writer

Mel Brooks is the brilliant comedic mind behind famous satirical films like Young Frankstein, The Producers, Spaceballs, and Blazing Saddles. After writing and directing many films as well as musical adaptations of those films, and then film adaptations of the musical adaptations, Brooks will be receiving a well-deserved award.

DigitalSpy reports Brooks is to receive the American Film Insitute (AFI) Lifetime

Achievement Award. Previous award winner, Martin Scorsese, will give the award to the comedic writer/director.

Chair of the AFI Board of Trustees, Howard Stringer, told EW , “At the American Film Institute, we also want to shine a proper light on his contributions to the art form as writer, producer, director and actor — and who better to bestow this honor than one of the masters of American film, Martin Scorsese.”

The life and career of the Spaceballs director’s will be honored on June 6, at a special ceremony taking place at the Dolby Theatre.

On June 15, The AFI Tribute to Brooks will air on TNT. TCM will air it again on July 24, as part of a day-long tribute to the director.

A day full of Mel Brooks films?  It’s time for Brooks fans to save the date, and prepare for a day of Madeline Kahn, racy humor, crude jokes, and that pure comedy that only Brooks can create.

It’s like Brooks said in History of the World: Part I…

“It’s good to be the king.”
