There’s a new award that celebrates the best of social media, and One Direction and Justin Bieber are among the first recipients.
The Singapore-based award recognizes celebrities who get the most social media attention around the world, as figured by Starcount.
The British boy band was named “Most Popular Music Group” while Justin Bieber was named “Most Popular Music Solo Artist.”
One Direction thanked with the fans over a viral video, ‘“We wanna say a massive thank you for the ‘Best Social Star Group’ of the year award. Thank you for our Starcount award, and we will see you soon!”
Bieber had a similar acceptance speech: “Thank you to all my fans that helped me win best solo artist. You guys are awesome!
The event was kicked off by Aerosmith. Other performances include Wrecking Crew, the original ‘Harlem Shake’ YouTubers, Carly Rae Jepsen and Psy, who closed the show with ‘Gangnam Style’.
Other stars who took awards home were: Selena Gomez for “Most Popular Actor” and Ellen DeGeneres for “Most Popular TV Show.” Twilight: Breaking Dawn was named “Most Popular Film” and Candy Crush Saga was voted “Most Popular Game.”
