Last week we reported that Maria Alekhina, of the Russian punk group Pussy Riot, was going on hunger strike to protest at not being permitted to attend her own parole hearing, which found she had “failed to repent for her crimes.”
Now we learn she has been hospitalised, after a week without food.
Pyotr Verzilov, husband of bandmate Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, who is also incarcerated, said Ms Alekhina had been transferred to a hospital unit inside the her prison.
Officials at Russia’s Federal Service of Correctional Institutions said she has been treated for low blood pressure.
